KAANAL

Kaanal is the work of three sisters from Coimbatore, TamizhNadu-India.

The three: Yazhini (18 ), the eldest sister, Kaviya and Oviya (15) the younger twins- developed an interest and and got training in art from a very young age from their father Mohan who is an artist and designer and from their grandmother who was also a good artist-- so we can say thet Kinda genetically brought their way into this.

They were- just like every other child, obsessed with scribbling all over their walls with anything they could find- paint, turmeric from the kitchen, mud form outside, make up from the cupboard and what not- but Mohan being the artist worried more about the proportions and strokes of the five year old kids than the cleaning up work.

So growing up with him many things like : Proportions, shading, strokes, line quality, shading &lighting, perspective came to us kinda ...uh Naturally I mean we didn't have an hour session every day focusing on these aspects speficically-- instead it just came along- as we went from drawing a house in front of a mountain with a crow, tree and river to more complex things-- 

For example we grew up around a lot of pets in a farm so we used to stare at our dogs sleeping and try to draw them ....which used to come out something like this :

Funny cos our work now looks like this:

It's kinda weird and surprising to see that from that- just 10 years later now ..at 18 and 15 we'd take up a huge commission project for a marriage where we had to deliver 100 custom ordered paintings-- every single one different and somehow we did manage to finish them all within 4 month's time. ​
